Pink Triangles
The Pink Triangle painting series are a reference to the reclamation of a symbol used against the LGBTQIA+ community. 1930’s - 40’s Nazi Germany marked homosexual people with large pink triangles pointing downwards, but in the 70’s the community turned it on its head, literally, and made it a symbol of celebration and awareness. I’ve chosen to depict extraordinary trailblazers of the community, or people who have helped with queer visibility in pop culture, inside of these triangles. These are intended to inform the viewer and highlight the dark history and durability of the community while also celebrating queerness in pop culture and media in the modern day.
